Some emoji count as two characters on LinkedIn, so keep a small margin.

LinkedIn does not say how it counts emoji and symbols. Some take two characters, so stay a few characters under the limit when your text uses them.

Write a connection note that fits in 200 characters

A free account gets only a few notes a month, so spend them on people you have a real reason to contact. A note that gets accepted usually has three parts:

  1. The reason now: a new role, a post they wrote, an event you both attended.
  2. What you have in common: a shared customer type, a problem you both work on.
  3. No pitch: ask to connect. Save the offer for after they accept.

Headline and About: say who you help first

  • Headline: your headline appears with your name in search, comments and invitations, so put who you help and how before your title.
  • About: open with the problem you solve and one concrete result. LinkedIn shows only the first lines before people choose to read more.
  • Posts: 3,000 characters is a ceiling, not a target. A short post with one idea is easier to read on a phone.

Questions

How many characters can a LinkedIn connection request note have?

What is the LinkedIn headline character limit?

How long can the LinkedIn About section be?

LinkedIn’s Talent Blog gives 2,600 characters as the maximum for the About section, which used to be called the summary.

What is the LinkedIn comment character limit?

How long can an InMail be?

In Sales Navigator, LinkedIn Help gives 200 characters for the subject line, which is required, and 1,900 for the message. Your signature, up to 150 characters, counts toward the total.

Is my text stored?

No. The counter runs entirely in your browser; your text is never sent to Looply or anyone else.
