Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does LinkedIn support Boolean search?

Yes. LinkedIn Help says you can type a Boolean string into the main search bar, combining keywords with AND, OR and NOT, quotation marks for exact phrases and parentheses for grouping.

Do AND, OR and NOT have to be in capitals?

Yes. LinkedIn Help says you must type them in uppercase for the search to work correctly.

Can I use wildcards, brackets or + and - on LinkedIn?

No. LinkedIn does not support braces, square brackets, angle brackets or the * wildcard. It says + and - may seem to work but are not officially supported, so use AND and NOT instead.

In what order does LinkedIn read a Boolean search?

Quoted phrases first, then parentheses, then NOT, then AND, and OR last. This builder adds parentheses so the order never surprises you.

Why did a word disappear from my search?

LinkedIn ignores stop words such as “by”, “in” and “with”, so the builder skips them and tells you.
